Prof. Ana Marta González

I am Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Navarra (Spain), where I earned my PhD in 1997, with a Dissertation on morality, reason and nature in Thomas Aquinas. 

In 2002 I was awarded a Fulbright Scholar to develop a post-doctoral research in the Department of Philosophy at Harvard where I worked for a year on morality, nature and culture in Kant's practical philosophy.

Since I first joined the University of Navarra's faculty, I have taught many courses, with a focus on ethics and moral theory. 

I have worked extensively on Aquinas, Kant and Hume, and my research moves in the intersection between moral philosophy and social sciences. Specifically, I am interested in natural law and practical reason, emotions and social bonds, culture and identity, as well as in the social dimensions of work.

I have led several research projects on these topics. From 2010 through 2022 I was the director of   "Emotional Culture and Identity", an interdisciplinary research project, based in the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) at the University of Navarra, where I have served also as Scientific Director from 2012 through 2019, and as the Director of the Master in Research in Social Sciences, from 2015 through 2019.  

In 2019 I became the Director of the Doctoral Program in Philosophy.  

In September 2022,  I became the scientific coordinator of the Strategic Research Area on  "Work, Care and Development", at the University of Navarra, and in May 2023 I became the Director of the "Cátedra Idea de Nuevas longevidades", at the Institute for culture and Society.

In December 2023 I became the Director of the Department of Philosophy.

Since 2004, I am also the academic leader of the "Culture and Lifestyles" branch of the Social Trends Institute. In this capacity I have organized several experts meetings on issues related to social sciences.   

In 2016 I was appointed by Pope Francis as an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
